Author: Anne Glenconner

"Anne Glenconner's life story is a combination of royal magic, personal tragedy and resilient survival. With humor, courage, and preternatural poise, Anne Glenconner triumphed over all of it and at last tells the story of her uniquely fascinating life."―Tina Brown"I couldn't put it down. Funny and touching - like looking through a keyhole at a lost world."―Rupert Everett"A remarkable memoir--containing, at last, a genuine portrait of Princess Margaret from one who knew her well. But this book is poignant too, and through the pages shine [Anne's] courage and good-humored acceptance of her demons and tragedies."―Hugo Vickers"A smart, dishy, and truly touching autobiography."―Town & Country"This memoir of consorting with Princess Margaret and the royal family is remarkable."―The Sunday Times (UK)"A startling, rare, beguiling insight into a lost world of royalty and celebrity with as many tears as there are titles... Anne's story - a breath-taking array of top-drawer gossip--is told with an endearing modesty and with an extraordinary sense of surprise that all these things happened to her... The book is a diamond-mine of glittering asides."―Daily Express"Extraordinary."―Loose Women"[An] upfront account of her life... [you'll] laugh out loud, exclaim in shock, and cry as [you] read it....An amazing read. There's so much humanity... as well as stories of glitz and glamour and royalty... it's a life fully lived."―"Nightlife" ABC radio (AU)"Gentle, wise, unpretentious, but above all inspiring."―The Times (UK)"A candid, witty and stylish memoir."―Miranda Seymour, Financial TimesLady Glenconner was born Lady Anne Coke in 1932, the eldest daughter of the 5th Earl of Leicester, and grew up at their ancestral estate at Holkham Hall in Norfolk, England. A Maid of Honor at the Queen's coronation, she married Lord Glenconner in 1956. They had five children together, three of whom survive. In 1958 she and her husband began to transform the island of Mustique into a paradise for the rich and famous. They granted a plot of land to Princess Margaret, who built her favorite home there. Anne Glenconner was appointed a Lady in Waiting to Princess Margaret in 1971 and kept this role--accompanying her on many state occasions and foreign tours--until the Princess's death in 2002. Lord Glenconner died in 2010. Lady Glenconner now lives in a farmhouse in Norfolk.**International Bestseller****The Times (UK) Memoir of the Year****One of Newsweek's Most Anticipated Books of 2020**An extraordinary memoir of drama, tragedy, and royal secrets by Anne Glenconner--a close member of the royal circle and lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret. As seen on Netflix's The Crown.Anne Glenconner has been at the center of the royal circle from childhood, when she met and befriended the future Queen Elizabeth II and her sister, the Princess Margaret. Though the firstborn child of the 5th Earl of Leicester, who controlled one of the largest estates in England, as a daughter she was deemed "the greatest disappointment" and unable to inherit. Since then she has needed all her resilience to survive court life with her sense of humor intact. A unique witness to landmark moments in royal history, Maid of Honor at Queen Elizabeth's coronation, and a lady in waiting to Princess Margaret until her death in 2002, Anne's life has encompassed extraordinary drama and tragedy. In Lady in Waiting, she will share many intimate royal stories from her time as Princess Margaret's closest confidante as well as her own battle for survival: her broken-off first engagement on the basis of her "mad blood"; her 54-year marriage to the volatile, unfaithful Colin Tennant, Lord Glenconner, who left his fortune to a former servant; the death in adulthood of two of her sons; a third son she nursed back from a six-month coma following a horrific motorcycle accident. Through it all, Anne has carried on, traveling the world with the royal family, including visiting the White House, and developing the Caribbean island of Mustique as a safe harbor for the rich and famous-hosting Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Raquel Welch, and many other politicians, aristocrats, and celebrities. With unprecedented insight into the royal family, Lady in Waiting is a witty, candid, dramatic, at times heart-breaking personal story capturing life in a golden cage for a woman with no inheritance.

Interesting life, but memoir has problems Boy, times have changed since Marion Crawford wrote her memoir and got shunned by the Royal Family, huh? It seems like we've had several royal memoirs recently. This book came on the heels of The Other Side of the Coin by Angela Kelly, and frankly it was far more entertaining. That said, I really waffled over what to rate this book. I finally settled on three stars because while I did enjoy and finish it, there we're two significant aspects I strongly disliked. The first was that the book is billed as being about Glenconner's relationship with Princess Margaret, but in reality said relationship is perhaps 50% of the book. The rest is about her life, and while it was generally interesting, if you're looking for details about Princess Margaret, this may not be the best volume for you.The second was my annoyance with how she wrote about Colin. Yes, this is a memoir and subject to personal feelings. Yes, Glenconner is a product of her time. Yes, I get it. But I still couldn't stand any page Colin was on. The man was a man-child. He would literally roll around on the floor while screaming, and he even bit a man at one point. But Glenconner just brushes past this ("difficult") and defends his asshattery by claiming that he really could be a very nice man, too. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying she shouldn't have included this information in the story of her life, but her attitude about it was off-putting and unpleasant. It soured the reading experience in many places. However, for all this, she wrote poignantly about her family life, and I was moved by the descriptions of her sons and their mishaps/tragedies. Anne suffered, and her suffering was evident throughout.Tea with Lady Glenconner I have had this book preordered since November 2019. So, imagine my surprise and joy when I was given a digital copy in exchange for my honest review. This is the memoir of Lady Glenconner who served as lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret. She grew up near the royal family her entire life as most of her family had served the royal family in similar capacities. The story starts with Helen Bonham Carter meeting Lady Glenconner for tea to speak about Princess Margaret and her upcoming role in The Crown. This lovely book reads as if you too are enjoying tea with Lady Glenconner as she tells you about her life. History is often dry but this is anything but that. I love the small bits of information that sticks with you and makes you feel as if you were there: silver shoes, felt skirts, and the island of Mustique.I really enjoyed it and I highly recommend this book. If you love The Crown as much as I do, then you will love this book. Come for the historical content, stay for the author’s wit and humor. The author’s voice is unique, and I am not sure I could do it justice by giving you a list of similar books. It’s a memoir but unlike any that I have read.A great read I saw this Lady Anne on a clip from a British talk show. She was so charming and funny that I looked her up online and decided to pre-order her book. I loved the book--a real distraction especially now. I recommend this book if you want a good read.

Title: Cool Cars and Trucks (Sean Kenney's Cool Creations) Pdf

Attention young LEGO brick builders: Whether you'd like to build an SUV, an excavator, a tanker truck, or a race car, this hands-on book will show you how. You can create street scenes such as a construction site, a fire rescue, or even a family on moving day.

Children of all ages will let their imaginations run wild as they learn that there are no limits to what can be created with LEGO. And easy-to-follow instructions are included for several of the models!

I love it, kids are unimpressed I spend insane amounts of money on new Lego kits every birthday and Christmas, which get built once, and eventually broken down and amalgamated into the giant bucket of random Lego graveyard under the bed. I hoped this book would get them to pull out that bucket of Legos and build something new without me buying another set. I think they may have built one or two things before losing interest and wanting more sets. I personally think it's an awesome book but I guess they weren't completely sold.More to do with that mountain of Legos My kids assemble their lego presents according to the instructions, play with it like that for a day or 2, and then it joins the pile of Legos that become whatever they want. Cool - after all that's the joy of playing with these. This provides assistance in their designs. It assumes that you have a pile of legos from other sets with the little extras for turn signals, steering wheels, etc. The instructions are written similarly to the ones in the Lego packages.Awesome book! Bought this for our cousine. He loves to read and loves to build w/ legos, so it was a win-win.(age 7) I liked that it showed lots of ways to build different vehicals w/ the same base. Very cool. Nice to have as we often loose the original instructions that come w/ our legos and are left w/ buckets of legos but no idea how to make what we want. Unless you are one of those super creative people that work for lego, this is a great book for the rest of us and kids. Helps the creativeness get a base going to expand on.
