Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th Edition Free Pdf

ISBN: 1433805618
Title: Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th Edition Pdf
Author: Santiago Viveros Fuentes
Published Date: 2010

The "Publication Manual" is the style manual of choice for writers, editors, students, and educators. Although it is specifically designed to help writers in the behavioral sciences and social sciences, anyone who writes non-fiction prose can benefit from its guidance. The newly-revised Sixth Edition has not only been rewritten. It has also been thoroughly rethought and reorganized, making it the most user-friendly "Publication Manual" the APA has ever produced. You will be able to find answers to your questions faster than ever before. When you need advice on how to present information, including text, data, and graphics, for publication in any type of format--such as college and university papers, professional journals, presentations for colleagues, and online publication--you will find the advice you're looking for in the "Publication Manual."

It provides invaluable guidance on all aspects of the writing process, from the ethics of authorship to the word choice that best reduces bias in language.

Beware of knock-offs! I am giving the low star amount because I believe I was sent a knock-off of the real thing. Although it was new and packaged, as soon as I pulled off the wrapping I noticed it had a horrid smell. I've never smelled anything like it, so it's hard to describe. But it's terrible! Then I began reading it. The pages were faded in some spots, and there are very bad spelling errors throughout what I have read so far. I had to go to my college bookstore and buy a copy from them, and I compared the real one with whatever the heck was sent to me. I am attaching pics to show how bad it is. There are a lot more errors, I am just posting a couple. I am returning it immediately. It sounds like most people are getting the real deal, but do be aware that there are bad copies going around as well.I just wanted to add that I am not talking about the errors that accompanied the first printing, this was supposedly a 7th printing with the "errors" fixed. This was a book that had clearly been badly re-typed by someone, as can be seen in the pics I included. This is a counterfeit product IMO.The index (list of contents) could be better organized. The spiral bound version is handy to use. What can I say? The APA is the APA, and if you're dealing with term papers, it's a must-have. I got the spiral version, which I strongly recommend, because it will lie flat while you search for the guidelines you need.My reason for rating it four stars rather than five is due to the way the APA organizes the guide, not due to the print or binding quality of the actual manual. I've used MLA as well as APA, and I find the index listings of the APA needlessly difficult and intuitively lacking. While it's true there are things we didn't need a few years ago (the various only citation guides, etc.) there's no real reason for the manual to be organized so you have to search for several terms before you find the right one (and sometimes you still don't find it). The earliest printing of this edition had errors in it (go figure!).As a university instructor, I think the manual could benefit from additional paragraph-length examples so students can see how a full paragraph would look with the various iterations of author and page citation criteria. In case anyone needs to know this - you can also find most (or all) of the manual on the APA website. Purdue OWL is, of course, a go-to site where we refer students, but I've learned it may not be as updated as we need.Have a strong pot of coffee or a glass of wine handy if you're using this style for the first time. It is what it is, and we have to live with it.As expected. More handy than I expected. Highly recommended for college students. If you are a college student that is going to be writing APA style papers or you're a person that will be writing APA style papers this is the book that you need to have. This is what I consider to be the "bible" of APA style writing. Everything that you could ever need to know is covered in this manual which is written and published by the American Psychological Association, which is the association who sets out the guidelines for writing APA style papers. Owning this book will ensure that you do not have questions on paper set up, paper critique, and the all-important resources layout. So, if you are like me and you are one of the people that want to make sure that every APA paper that you write is 100% correct then you need to own this book and use it to its fullest. You will not be let down by any means. Also, I wanted to mention that you cannot beat the price for this book in hardcover!• side note, this is the most up-to-date American Psychological Association guideline book for writing APA style papers. As of 2018.

Mirror Gate (Harbinger Book 2) Pdf

ISBN: B07B4YBLCZ
Title: Mirror Gate (Harbinger Book 2) Pdf

Wall Street Journal bestselling author Jeff Wheeler continues his wondrous Harbinger series in which two young women unite as two worlds approach the brink of war…

Though relations between Princess Seraphin Fitzempress and her father have been strained, Sera’s royal position has remained unchallenged. Filled with self-doubt, she struggles to grasp the Mysteries—her greatest trial yet.

An education in the enigmatic magic is a necessary one, should Sera plan to rise in her station and invoke her powers during war. But the emperor’s death now leaves both Sera and her ambitious father eligible for the throne—a contest the prince regent intends to win. Even if it means an alliance with a rival empire.

Sera’s hope lies in Cettie, a waif raised in the world below, whose life has intertwined with Sera’s in the most unexpected ways. The Mysteries come easily to Cettie, and her studies have begun to yield new insight into her growing powers. But those same powers put Cettie in the path of those who would destroy her.

Now as the threat of war ignites and an insidious sickness spreads throughout the kingdom, Sera and Cettie will need to gather their courage and fight for each other’s lives…and for the future of their endangered world.

Who will rise and who will fall? What an awesome sequel! Deeper and darker than its predecessor, Mirror Gate follows Cettie Pratt, almost eighteen, and Sera Fitzempress, now sixteen, as they prepare to finish their four years at Muirwood Abbey and take their Test. Cettie is firmly still part of Minister Fitzroy’s family, although not yet adopted. Sera and her father are competitors for the position of emperor, and Kingfountain has sent a prince for the chance of a political match.Everything is up in the air and under siege in this sequel to Storm Glass, whether it’s Cettie’s parentage and adoption, Sera’s chance at the test and being chosen as emperor, peace with Kingfountain… it’s all in contention and the politics and politicking build layer upon layer undergirded by deceit and greed. Cettie and Sera must each do their best to survive the machinations of those around them while holding onto the integrity, honor, and steadfastness of their true friends and mentors. There are some serious twists and unexpected consequences in Mirror Gate. Sera still dreams of helping change society and demolishing the rigid codes that oppress the lower classes while she’s opposed by those who have no desire to change the status quo. But the evil forces at work are revealed as deeper, more malevolent, and older than all but a few have imagined. The self-serving politics of Sera’s narcissistic father and his cohorts plunge her and the kingdom into danger. Friends become enemies and betrayal is the order of the day. Some they have held in low esteem prove that they are more steadfast than seeming friends and beloved companions. Some storylines are tied up, but many are not, and there are definitely new puzzles and mysteries to be solved. Unnamed characters move upon the field and those who claim familial ties use their children for their own nefarious ends. There is no end to the depths to which men and kingdoms fall. Can these two families and the kingdom survive the fallout of betrayal from within and without?Mirror Gate is, like Storm Glass, reminiscent of a steampunk novel, but remains firmly fantasy, rather than mechanisms, there are magic stones, mysteries, and maritime vessels flung aloft. The world-building is wonderfully colorful and real, the characterizations are deep and complex, and the magical system of mysteries is, well, mysterious.Mirror Gate is another wonderful read from Jeff Wheeler with a lot of deep, deep thoughts and insights along with twisty, gritty plots. You will leave this book satisfied and yet hungering for the next. Jeff Wheeler is a master storyteller who improves with every book he publishes. Greatly anticipating the next book! Highly recommended.Full disclosure: I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) from the publisher through NetGalley after I had already purchased and read it independently. My opinions are my own.Wheeler's universe expands yet again Like the last book, I felt this one ended too soon, and wish we might have let Cettie and Adam have a dance before we go.... but cliffhangers do that, and we can expect most second-in-the-series to be a bit more grim than the first, as this one was. The villains get meaner, the lovers break up or get separated, and the twisted knots in Book One become tangled. But I hesitate to give Wheeler's writing here less than five stars, because the connection made with Kingfountain, which I feared might be reaching a bit, or come off as contrived, was masterfully done, although I hope one does not have to have read that series to appreciate the effect. What I always love best about Wheeler's work, though, is the appeal of his characters. No wooden stereotypes here, they are fully human with all the flaws and idiosyncrasies we would expect from real people. Even the villains are given a touch of two of humanity; a reason, if not an excuse, for the harm that they do. And the friendships that develop, especially between Cettie And Sera, develop for the betterment of the friends and of their world. That said, I have just enough time to re-read Mirror Gate before the next book is delivered. Thank you, Mr. Wheeler. Please keep writing, and if I could wish for one thing in your world, it would be a bit more time with the main characters.

The New Rules of War Free Pdf

ISBN: B07L16HTHZ
Title: The New Rules of War Pdf Victory in the Age of Durable Disorder

"Stunning. Sean McFate is a new Sun Tzu." (Admiral James Stavridis (retired), former supreme allied commander at NATO)

An urgent, fascinating exploration of warfare - past, present, and future - and what we must do if we want to win today from an 82nd Airborne veteran, former private military contractor, and professor of war studies at the National Defense University.

War is timeless. Some things change - weapons, tactics, technology, leadership, objectives - but our desire to go into battle does not. We are living in the age of durable disorder - a period of unrest created by numerous factors: China's rise, Russia's resurgence, America's retreat, global terrorism, international criminal empires, climate change, dwindling natural resources, and bloody civil wars. Sean McFate has been on the front lines of deep state conflicts and has studied and taught the history and practice of war. He's seen firsthand the horrors of battle and understands the depth and complexity of the current global military situation.

This devastating turmoil has given rise to difficult questions. What is the future of war? How can we survive? If Americans are drawn into major armed conflict, can we win? McFate calls upon the legends of military study Carl von Clausewitz, Sun Tzu, and others, as well as his own experience, and carefully constructs the new rules for the future of military engagement, the ways we can fight and win in an age of entropy: one where corporations, mercenaries, and rogue states have more power and "nation states" have less. With examples from the Roman conquest, World War II, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and others, he tackles the differences between conventional and future war, the danger in believing technology will save us, the genuine leverage of psychological and "shadow" warfare, and much more. McFate's new rules distill the essence of war today, describing what it is in the real world, not what we believe or wish it to be.

Some of these principles are ancient, others are new, but all will permanently shape war now and in the future. By following them, he argues, we can prevail. But if we do not, terrorists, rogue states, and others who do not fight conventionally will succeed - and rule the world.

Outstanding Unbiased outside the box perspective

Being Mortal Pdf

ISBN: 1250076226
Title: Being Mortal Pdf Medicine and What Matters in the End

“Wise and deeply moving.” ―Oliver Sacks“Illuminating.” ―Janet Maslin, The New York Times“Beautifully written . . . In his newest and best book, Gawande has provided us with a moving and clear-eyed look at aging and death in our society, and at the harms we do in turning it into a medical problem, rather than a human one.” ―The New York Review of Books“Gawande's book is so impressive that one can believe that it may well [change the medical profession] . . . May it be widely read and inwardly digested.” ―Diana Athill, Financial Times (UK)“Being Mortal, Atul Gawande's masterful exploration of aging, death, and the medical profession's mishandling of both, is his best and most personal book yet.” ―Boston Globe“American medicine, Being Mortal reminds us, has prepared itself for life but not for death. This is Atul Gawande's most powerful--and moving--book.” ―Malcolm Gladwell“Beautifully crafted . . . Being Mortal is a clear-eyed, informative exploration of what growing old means in the 21st century . . . a book I cannot recommend highly enough. This should be mandatory reading for every American. . . . it provides a useful roadmap of what we can and should be doing to make the last years of life meaningful.” ―Time.com“Masterful . . . Essential . . . For more than a decade, Atul Gawande has explored the fault lines of medicine . . . combining his years of experience as a surgeon with his gift for fluid, seemingly effortless storytelling . . . In Being Mortal, he turns his attention to his most important subject yet.” ―Chicago Tribune“Powerful.” ―New York Magazine“Atul Gawande's wise and courageous book raises the questions that none of us wants to think about . . . Remarkable.” ―Peter Carey, The Sunday Times (UK)“A deeply affecting, urgently important book--one not just about dying and the limits of medicine but about living to the last with autonomy, dignity, and joy.” ―Katherine Boo“Dr. Gawande's book is not of the kind that some doctors write, reminding us how grim the fact of death can be. Rather, he shows how patients in the terminal phase of their illness can maintain important qualities of life.” ―Wall Street Journal“Being Mortal left me tearful, angry, and unable to stop talking about it for a week. . . . A surgeon himself, Gawande is eloquent about the inadequacy of medical school in preparing doctors to confront the subject of death with their patients. . . . it is rare to read a book that sparks with so much hard thinking.” ―Nature“Eloquent, moving.” ―The Economist“Beautiful.” ―New Republic“Gawande displays the precision of his surgical craft and the compassion of a humanist . . . in a narrative that often attains the force and beauty of a novel . . . Only a precious few books have the power to open our eyes while they move us to tears. Atul Gawande has produced such a work. One hopes it is the spark that ignites some revolutionary changes in a field of medicine that ultimately touches each of us.” ―Shelf Awareness“A needed call to action, a cautionary tale of what can go wrong, and often does, when a society fails to engage in a sustained discussion about aging and dying.” ―San Francisco ChronicleAtul Gawande is author of three bestselling books: Complications, a finalist for the National Book Award; Better, and The Checklist Manifesto. His latest book is Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End. He is also a surgeon at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, a staff writer for The New Yorker, and a professor at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health. He has won the Lewis Thomas Prize for Writing about Science, a MacArthur Fellowship, and two National Magazine Awards. In his work in public health, he is Executive Director of Ariadne Labs, a joint center for health systems innovation, and chairman of Lifebox, a nonprofit organization making surgery safer globally. He and his wife have three children and live in Newton, Massachusetts.

Named a Best Book of the Year by The Washington Post, The New York Times Book Review, NPR, and Chicago Tribune, now in paperback with a new reading group guide

Medicine has triumphed in modern times, transforming the dangers of childbirth, injury, and disease from harrowing to manageable. But when it comes to the inescapable realities of aging and death, what medicine can do often runs counter to what it should.

Through eye-opening research and gripping stories of his own patients and family, Gawande reveals the suffering this dynamic has produced. Nursing homes, devoted above all to safety, battle with residents over the food they are allowed to eat and the choices they are allowed to make. Doctors, uncomfortable discussing patients' anxieties about death, fall back on false hopes and treatments that are actually shortening lives instead of improving them.

In his bestselling books, Atul Gawande, a practicing surgeon, has fearlessly revealed the struggles of his profession. Now he examines its ultimate limitations and failures-in his own practices as well as others'-as life draws to a close. Riveting, honest, and humane, Being Mortal shows how the ultimate goal is not a good death but a good life-all the way to the very end.

The Old and Sick Are Not Children This is a timely book for me because my parents are very elderly (94 and 88) and determined to stay in their home until the last possible second. After reading this thought provoking book that teaches so much I am thinking that it may be possible for them to stay until the end which could be next week or a few years from now. It's going to take some organizing, but it looks like it is worth some research and time. It makes me sad to see how much of their independence they have lost, but they still enjoy their lives as limited as they are. There is a tendency to treat old people like children which I realize now is usually very wrong. My dad is a diabetic and we (my siblings and I) have told him over and over that his diet of sugary cereal or cinnamon rolls and orange juice for breakfast and light store brand fruit yogurt with grapes and three cookies for lunch is not what he should be eating. He acts surprised every time we mention this, but doesn't change a thing because I now understand that he wants the independence of eating as he pleases. He has lost so much--can barely hear or see or walk, that he needs these very small pleasures to continue. I imagine he doesn't see the point in giving up anything else because he has so little left. My mother's memory is going and she has COPD, but somehow has lots of get up and go. She does a lot for my dad even though I suspect she is the sicker one. Being Mortal is making me think about the best way to help my parents which will probably start with asking them what they want. One thing that surprised me completely was Dr. Gawande's statement that genetics is only a small part of reaching old age. Here I've been thinking that because my parents have lived so long that reaching old age is probably a no brainer for me. I have to think about that possiblity some more--a lot more. This book has some touching stories about very sick people and how their lives ended. Unfortunately for many sick people the medical community is driven to act, but not necessarily to do what is best for the individual. It seems to me that they've forgotten "the do no harm" part of being a doctor. It seems to me it does harm people to ruin the time sick people have left.A very through provoking book that will ultimately make me think about what I want when the end is near. I wish everyone would read it; especially medical people.

The Curated Closet Pdf

ISBN: 1607749483
Title: The Curated Closet Pdf A Simple System for Discovering Your Personal Style and Building Your Dream Wardrobe
Author: Anuschka Rees
Published Date: 2016
Page: 272

"it never hurts to take inventory of what's in your closet already in order to make good decisions when you're staring at a pile of "yeses" in the dressing room. That's where Berlin-based blogger Anuschuka Rees comes in. . . [she] is dedicated to helping women curate their perfect wardrobes using all kinds of handy charts, infographics, and lists that make the process less emotional and more data-oriented."– Glamour.com"Fans of the author's blog, Marie Kondo devotees, and anyone who's tired of having a full closet but 'nothing to wear' will treasure this superb resource."– Stephanie Klose, Library Journal "Does your weakness for sales leave you with clothing you’ll never wear? Do you love buying dressy clothes but seldom have an occasion to wear them? Do you have a full closet but still have trouble finding something to wear? Style blogger Anuschka Rees may have a solution for you. In The Curated Closet. . .she outlines how to analyze your wardrobe and lifestyle. She counsels discipline, suggesting you make a list of the items you need and shop with that list in hand, looking for quality and durability."– The Boston Globe"Lifestyle blogger Rees’s first book, based on the blog Into Mind, is a fun and practical guide to discovering one’s personal style. The goal is for women to easily choose an outfit that they like every single morning, to wear a large portion of clothes from their closet, and to be able to dress for their own lifestyles. Focusing on what one likes to wear and what one does most often, Rees provides a variety of methods to achieve a wardrobe that works. To begin, readers are encouraged to document their own outfits for two weeks (taking a photograph every day), observing their favorite and least favorite looks, colors, fits, and garments. From there, Rees advises readers on how to revitalize their personal style and build a fully wearable wardrobe. The book uses simple but eye-opening graphics to emphasize its points, such as side-by-side pie charts comparing lifestyle to current wardrobe. Refreshing and thorough, Rees delivers a fashion-forward guide that’s awesomely sensible."– Publishers Weekly“Have you ever walked out of your house only to later regret your less-than-perfect clothing choices? The Curated Closet [is] about ten steps above and beyond most other closet make-over books. You'll get a walk-through into building a dream wardrobe that you will actually be happy to wear. Author Anuschka Rees guides the reader through a series of questions that will hone choices to your personality and your varied lifestyles. (Hiking, office work, semi-formal, hanging out, etc.) Once the wardrobe is pared down to what you really need, Rees works on teaching methods to put together outfits that work. In her own words, she'll teach 'the secret to making sure you never again have nothing to wear.' I heartily recommend The Curated Closet to anyone who has ever stood in front of their closet, baffled by its contents.”– Tracey Trudeau, Powell's Books“In a world inundated with fast fashion and rapidly changing trends, it’s easy for our closets to become graveyards of misguided purchases. In the midst of plenty, identifying our personal style can feel harder than ever. Anuschka Rees’s The Curated Closet is a smart, straightforward manual that encourages readers to discover what they like and to develop a wardrobe that makes getting dressed easier. Anuschka's pragmatic book should be required reading for anyone familiar with staring at a closet full of clothes and still feeling like they don't have a thing to wear.” – Erin Boyle, author of Simple Matters “This chic, thoughtful book is full of genius methods for taking control of your look, your habits, your budget, and your wardrobe. Best of all, it helps you discover your own unique style rather than follow the trends—authenticity is always in fashion!” – Alison Freer, author of How to Get Dressed ANUSCHKA REES is a writer and the creator of Into-Mind.com, the go-to online source for all things personal style and minimalism. She has a master's in social psychology from the London School of Economics and has spent years studying the intricacies of human decision making, which she's used to develop her unique system of personal style-defining techniques.

Is your closet jam-packed and yet you have absolutely nothing to wear? Can you describe your personal style in one sentence? If someone grabbed a random piece from your closet right now, how likely is it that it would be something you love and wear regularly?

With so many style and shopping options, it can be difficult to create a streamlined closet of pieces that can be worn easily and confidently. In The Curated Closet, style writer Anuschka Rees presents a fascinatingly strategic approach to identifying, refining, and expressing personal style and building the ideal wardrobe to match it, with style and shopping strategies that women can use every day. Using The Curated Closet method, you’ll learn to:

·         Shop smarter and more selectively
·         Make the most of your budget
·         Master outfit formulas and color palettes
·         Tweak your wardrobe for work
·         Assess garment fit and quality like a pro
·         Curate a closet of fewer, better pieces

Including useful infographics, charts, and activities, as well as beautiful fashion photography, The Curated Closet is the ultimate practical guide to authentic and unique style.

Great Approach to Creating / Managing A Wardrobe If you are frustrated by the standard quizzes and capsule rules -- pick up this book.Anuschka lays out a detailed approach to developing your personal wardrobe. She stresses that personal style is very different from being fashionable. She explains when a capsule makes sense, when a "curated" wardrobe makes sense, and how to blend both. Most importantly, she teaches you how to define your own clothing rules. She does not provide lists or pictures of what works together -- that's your homework. She does provide completed samples of each assignment. Do not purchase if you want a quick, do-it-in-one-afternoon guide. It was work; however, I have a clear set of personal rules, fabric preferences, and outfit formulas. Pieces a quick-capsule-approach guided me to discard or pack-away are now in purposeful use! While Anuschka is exceptional on the wardrobe element, I was only able to follow everything based on previous work. I'd be a bit lost on color, personalized style words, and garment basics without the prior read of Bobbie Thomas, The Power of Style (similar approach with clearer guidance on personal style & color palettes), Nancy Nix-Rice, Looking Good Every Day (required text for FIT NY Image Consultants), and Jennifer Scott, Lessons From Madame Chic (light-hearted stories underscoring and explaining personal style, quality, upkeep, yep, no quizzes her either). For me, understanding the fundamentals allowed me to maximize Anuschka's approach.Having read those books, Anuschka is exceptional at the final mechanics of building and updating a wardrobe that meets YOUR needs and style personality. Really, no book can do it all. The Curated Closet is the final piece to my personal style & wardrobe journey!Madame Chic -- put me in the proper mindsetLooking Good Everyday -- provided the nuts and boltsThe Power of Style -- prompted detail work on my style personality, color palette, and clothing detailsThe Curated Closet -- solidified my rules, set my outfit formula, and established an on-going "curating" approachBest wardrobe overhaul method out there! I've been doing capsule wardrobes and working on editing my closet for the last two years. Here's what I love about The Curated Closet, and why I think it's better than the other wardrobe overhaul methods I've tried:First of all, none of it is cookie-cutter; it's about what works for YOU. It starts with a look at your current outfits (as opposed to pieces in your wardrobe). She asks you to take pictures of your outfits for two weeks and then looks at your FAVORITE outfits, that you felt the best in, and helps you analyze them to figure out WHY you love them and then build your whole wardrobe around those elements. This is different from every other challenge I've looked at, which have you look at all the clothes you WORE and build your wardrobe around the pieces you wore, which is NOT the same as building it around your favorite outfits. For me, I had a lot of favorite pieces, mixed with filler pieces that I only felt "meh" about, and consequently only felt okay about the outfits, even though they had some of my favorite pieces. No more "meh"!!!Walking away from this book I am purging a good chunk of my wardrobe (again; I'm down to less than 40 items now) but now have a clear set of guidelines for building it back up. I have a color palette, a couple of go-to outfit formulas, and a very specific but concise shopping list, of what I want to add, in order of priority. I finally feel like I've reached an end-goal and don't need to purge anymore! All that's left is to find the few pieces on my shopping list, and enjoy finally having my ideal wardrobe. Thank you for writing this book Anuschka Reeves, and thank you to Caroline at the Un-Fancy blog for recommending it!!Best Personal Style and Wardrobe Development Book I've Ever Read! When it comes to clothing and personal style, I think I’ve tried it all. For years I did the whole “buy whatever I like on clearance” routine – only to wind up with a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear, because nothing matches or it turns out a shirt I loved for 30 seconds in a dressing room (that was on sale of course) just doesn’t fit quite right at home.A few years ago I went with the minimalist “33 piece” wardrobe fad. That actually half-worked for me. It forced me to be far more selective and mindful about what I was buying and it pared down my choices- I really had an easier time putting outfits together. But it only half-worked, I bought less and was more focused on versatile wardrobe-building pieces, but I got pretty tired of the style that I had developed.Enter “The Curated Closet” by Anuschka Rees. Less focused on having a minimalist wardrobe (although that’s part of it), this book teaches the reader how to develop a personal style that works with your budget and how to be a smarter shopper. This book filled in some missing pieces for me (no pun intended). I had focused on developing an interchangeable, versatile minimalist wardrobe of pieces I liked, but I hadn’t ever taken the time to intentionally, thoughtfully consider my own style.Author Anuschka Rees instructs her readers to develop a style overview. This is actually a process that takes some time and effort. From creating a “mood board” of pieces that reflect your style to writing down specific qualities like silhouettes, materials, colors, etc. I came up with quite a few examples of things it turns out I really DON’T like: turtlenecks, faux fur, mid length skirts, as well as things I do: square necklines, jackets, and the color black just to name a few.Having a well-developed sense of your own style is key to being a better shopper; there’s so much you can just immediately bypass when you’re shopping. But there are other components to being a better, smarter shopper and some of these were things I really needed to learn. One of the biggest mistakes I was making was just having a general idea of a piece I needed –say a blue shirt- and then going shopping and finding something (on sale) that more or less fit the bill. Before I knew it, I was ending up with things that theoretically should have completed my wardrobe, but in actuality were just filling my closet again. “The Curated Closet” taught me to be A LOT more detailed and intentional about filling in pieces. “Blue shirt” is far too broad: turquoise, square-necked, mid-length sleeve, cotton blend, fitted, etc…turns the focus away from finding something I generally like on a clearance rack, to something very specific that may take some time to find. I may pay more for a high quality piece, but in the end will save a lot of money because being intentional and focused on the specific wardrobe I am building, will prevent me from making lots of cheap purchases that I’ll just toss out in the end.I still have some shopping behavior changes to make- I know that. But I have improved a lot and so has my wardrobe! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that finds themselves with a closet full of close and nothing to wear, or who is ready to develop a personal style and become a smarter, better shopper.
